DNSWeight: Quantifying Country-Wise Importance of Domain Name System
نویسندگان
چکیده
DNS (Domain Name System) is one fundamental Internet infrastructure related to most network activities. As a feasible tool govern the Internet, DNS’s stability and interoperability will be impacted by countries’ policies or actions along path. Especially now that many countries have stricter control over even sometimes "unplug" it. But there was no study quantify impact systematically. To fill this research gap, we present DNSWeight. This new data-driven approach utilizes large-scale dataset BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) routing information calculate country-importance score so country’s on can gauged. By applying DNSWeight datasets jointly, our shows importance among different divided. A handful of show dominant significance current ecosystem. Some with history shutdowns are too influential ignored if they choose break themselves from Internet. We also examine IPv6 (IP Version 6) reveal "loop" phenomenon occurs in some queries. In conjunction findings, discussion suggestions given. summary, reliability needs reconsidered at level.

Extensions to the Domain Name System (DNS) are described that provide data integrity and authentication to security aware resolvers or applications through the use of cryptographic digital signatures. These digital signatures are included in secured zones as resource records. Security can still be provided even through non-security aware DNS servers in many cases. The extensions also provide fo...
